Main screen showing the camera preview

Cash Reader is an application that allows banknotes to be identified using the camera, both on IOS and Android devices.
The application is very simple and easy to use. Just by focusing the camera on the bill, it verbalizes its monetary value. In addition, the monetary value of the banknotes is shown written on the screen in large numbers and with high contrast. The app can also identify banknotes by vibrations.

Screen where the number five is displayed in large and in high contrast

When the application is opened, the camera begins to identify possible banknotes. When a banknote is identified, its value is spoken aloud and displayed on the screen with large numbers and in high contrast, as can be seen in the image. The value of the banknote can also be indicated by vibrations, vibrating once for the lowest possible value, twice for the next and so on.

Screen where the following text can be read in large characters and in high contrast: This banknote is only available in the full version

The free version only identifies the two bills with the lowest monetary value. In this case, values outside the range display a message, as shown in the image, saying "This ticket is only available in the full version".
To identify the value of all the tickets it is necessary to purchase the full version.

From the application screen you can directly access the store to purchase the full version or access the settings menu.

Settings menu

From settings you can configure the application parameters. Specifically, you can select the currency to be identified, if you want it to be warned by vibration, if the flash is activated and if you want sounds to be emitted to know if the application is working, as can be seen in the image.
It is also possible to purchase the full version from here, contact the developer or access the application's social networks, among others.

Conclusion

Cash reader is an excellent identifier of the monetary value of banknotes. In addition, its user interface is simple and clear, presenting the monetary value of the banknotes with large characters and in high contrast, which is very useful for people with low vision.
During the tests carried out, it has successfully identified the value of the banknotes used, without having to bring the camera too close to the banknote. However, the fact that it only detects the lowest value banknotes in the free version is something that must be taken into account when purchasing it, since although its cost is perfectly acceptable, other alternatives can be considered.

Highlights

  • Cash Reader has a clear and simple interface.
  • The monetary value of the banknotes is shown in large numbers and in high contrast.
  • Internet is not required for the application to work.

Improvement points

  • The notice that says “Free version only identifies 5,10” could be removed from the main screen.
  • The button to purchase the full version does not need to be displayed on the main screen.
