Buttons and physical appearance:

The Jasper 2 4 G phone features a compact, compact and comfortable design.

As we can see, once the phone is opened, at the bottom there are the buttons

On the bottom front, you'll find large buttons for starting and ending calls. The multifunction button, located in the central quadrant on the right, allows you to turn the phone on and off, as well as hang up on calls and go back through the different menus or exit applications. In addition, it has navigation buttons to move forward and backward.

On the lower front, we find large keys, designed for easy dialing and navigation. We also find the shortcut buttons, the one for the speed dial contact being the one on the far left, the one in the center giving direct access to WhatsApp, and the one on the right giving access to the camera.

On the left side, there are volume adjustment buttons for convenient sound control, having 15 different tones. Below these, there is the flashlight button, to illuminate in low light situations.

At the bottom of the device, there is an input Micro USB to charge it, as well as an adapter for the fixed charging base.

However, the emergency button, located on the back next to the rear camera, is presented as a suggestion for improvement. Although it was designed in a subtle way to avoid stigmatization of the user, its smaller size could be difficult for older people or people with vision problems in emergencies. It is recommended to put it as a button of the same size as the normal ones, since the user already I would be used to its size.

We see a set of the three previous photos and a zoom to the WhatsApp shortcut button, which is green with a star.

Start Menu:

The start menu of the Jasper 2 4 G phone is very simple and easy to use, with large icons that facilitate navigation, in addition, it presents options where you can change the organization of the phone, these being possibilities to see the menu in a unique way per app, one app per screen, in grid form, or in icon list form. The user interface is designed in a simplified way, with the different applications arranged on separate screens, allowing the user to move between them using navigation buttons.

On the other hand, on the main screen, the time and date are displayed in medium size in the center of the screen. However, the wallpaper can make the text difficult to see, although the option to change it is offered to improve readability.

By default, WhatsApp and Facebook are included, although it has its own play store, KaiOS Store. where the user can download all the applications they want. Additionally, for those who wish, the internet can be easily disabled in settings.

The first time you turn on the phone you have to configure it, to do this, you will have to select the language, accept the terms and conditions of the location and select if you are a user over 16 years old, if you want to send analytics data to help and if you want to use your data to improve the advertising experience.

In addition, it has a mini-tutorial to understand the basic handling of the device, such as the use of the buttons. It is presented as an aspect of improvement, being able to increase the font of the pop-up text.

Main menu of the phone with the icons in the middle of each of the programs installed on the phone. Additionally, at the bottom of the screen we can see the text corresponding to the select and options buttons.

Calls and messages:

The functionalities associated with calls and messages are adapted to the user. Thus, it offers a large keypad for dialing phone numbers and a simplified call history.

It also allows you to add a photo to each contact, making it easier to recognize them.

Camera and image gallery:

It has a 5 Megapixel rear camera.

The camera can be accessed from the physical button located on the front right side of the device, a tool that improves the usability of the device. Furthermore, once inside the camera, the central button will be used to capture images or videos, choosing between video or image on the central button also in the multiposition area, right and left.

The image gallery has a simple and minimalist interface.

WhatsApp:

The phone allows the sending and receiving of images, audio or videos, and supports audio calls through the application.

By default, buttons and text size are large. However, accessibility tools are not offered in this application as in similar terminals, such as the simplification of the message sending process or the adapted reception of messages, since they are not present in the application itself.

Back of the phone, revealing the SOS button

SOS button:

This device incorporates the SOS button on the back of the device. The configuration of its functions can be done in a simple and intuitive way. When pressed, it starts a sequence of calls to the previously configured numbers. This sequence is repeated three times if there has been no answer, allowing up to 15 emergency calls.

In order to configure emergency phone numbers, you must access the contacts settings.

Configuration and adjustments.

The user can access basic settings such as time and date through the Settings section. Additionally, from the contact settings, you can assign up to eleven of them as speed dials, and up to five contacts as emergency contacts. Another option to assign a contact to speed dial is through the contact itself, marking it as “Speed dial”.

Usability and accessibility.

The phone interface is simple and intuitive. However, the micro USB connector has certain limitations as it can break easily and its availability in case of breakage or theft is lower compared to the more widely adopted USB Type C. Therefore, this is presented as a point of improvement to consider.

Accessibility for people with reduced or no visibility:

The Jasper 2 4G offers an interface that allows you to increase the size of the letters and adjust the menus to be displayed with large icons. However, it does not include other non-visual alternatives, such as speech synthesis for dialing phone numbers.

This suggests that the phone is suitable for people with low vision, but may not be suitable for those with no vision.

Accessibility for people with hearing difficulties:

The phone has features designed for users with hearing difficulties. Among them, it has a very loud ringer (up to 95 dB) or compatibility with hearing aids, which implies that the device has the ability to operate without causing interference with hearing aids.

So it can be concluded that the phone is very suitable for people with hearing problems.

Accessibility for people with cognitive difficulties:

The language used is basic and the phone interface is simplified. Pictograms and icons are also included in the different menus, making it suitable for people with mild cognitive difficulties.

Accessibility for people with reduced mobility:

The phone is easy to use for people with handling difficulties due to the extra-large buttons and charging base.

Conclusions:

It is a very complete device with correctly implemented functionalities. This terminal offers good usability and accessibility tools and presents a design that meets the user's needs.
